Rachel Richards

Rachel started playing cornet when she was 9 years old in Penryn, Cornwall. She worked her way up to front row
cornet in the very successful Penryn School Band and Saracen Brass but decided the cornet wasn’t for her and found
the Euphonium to be much more her style. She also played with Cornwall Youth Brass Band from age 11 until 16 and
enjoyed success at the National Festival of Music for Youth with them culminating in playing at the School Proms in
                         the Royal Albert Hall.
After moving away to Art College in Exeter in 1989 she took an 11 year break from banding before joining Lympstone
South West Telecoms Band as Solo Baritone and playing in the Royal Albert Hall again in the Millennium year National
Finals in 2000. A move to the darkest depths of Devon meant a change again and she joined both Northlew Silver Band
and Hatherleigh Silver Band in 2003 as Solo Euph but has just returned to the band after another 5 and a half year
break which she took when her second child Sienna was born in 2006. She also plays with Northlew Silver Band again.
She has lived in Northlew for nearly 10 years and runs her own Graphic Design consultancy, Chameleon Studio which
designs logos, websites and everything else inbetween. She is extremely pleased to be playing again as she has really
missed her friends in the band and just the sheer joy of playing music and will not stop playing again - ever!

Solo Baritone
     Jim ReynoldsPress Secretary

Jim is the bands longest serving member, he joined the band in 1953. Having played most instruments he
still calls the Tenor Horn his favourite. His love of music is obvious and he says he has no wish to play with
any other band. Jim enjoys holidays abroad and most sports, he played both Football and Cricket to a good
standard. As the longest serving player Jim is so pleased to see the band rise from playing on the Village
green to playing on the Contesting stage. He hopes the Training Band will be yet another success. Jim
previously served on the Committee for many years and is now the Press Secretary.
