Hatherleigh Silver Band
Front Row Cornets
Principal Cornet
Greg Morgan: Treasurer .
Greg is a local Company Director, he started playing when he was 8 years old in Cornwall and was lucky
enough to play under some marvellous conductors such as Mr Freddie Roberts and Major Arthur Kenny.
Greg was fortunate to sit in the same cornet line as the great Derek Garside when he was on holiday in
Cornwall and Greg was playing with St Austell. He still remembers his wide sound after thirty years.
In 1980 he took a short break when he went away to college and did not touch a musical instrument for
twenty years until 2000 when he joined Hatherleigh. He took a year out in 2002/3 to play with Bodmin and
was lucky enough to play under some marvellous conductors - and was hugely inspired by Russell Gray.
Now he has come home to Hatherleigh he is passing some of this knowledge on to the adult trainees in
the band and has become the Musical Director of the new Training Band. Playing the cornet and tutoring are
his hobbies and they take a huge amount of time. Greg loves visiting foreign lands, eating out and the odd
glass of wine.
After thirty odd years in the closet he has come out and proudly announced that he is a Chelsea supporter.

Mike Boother: Mike (Peter Pan) is our ever young 40 something! He sits in the assistant Principal chair when he remembers
not to sit with the Euphoniums! Mike is the band's smart dresser! When he is not designing bridges and
Airports (though he claims to have had nothing to do with Terminal 5!), he is running the local scout group or
helping with the Training Band. He has two children, Emily and Thomas. Given that his wife is the Head of the
School in Hatherleigh, we cannot understand why Mike is not better behaved at band?!

Claire Pratt:
Claire is a Nurse and learnt to read music as a child but I only started to learn the cornet in October 2005 and first
contested with HSB in March 2006. It was Hatherleigh Band and music that brought Claire and Greg Morgan our
( Principal Cornet ) together. Claire loves the outdoors, and dog-walking is a perfect excuse to get out and about
each day. Claires friends are really important to her and she loves girly chatter, and meals with friends and family.
She has two grown up children Will and Cath and is very proud of them.
