The Training Band has gone from strength to strength since its formation in 2005. Many members of the training band are now full members of the senior band but they play in different positions in the training band and so gain experience with more complex parts and also can develop their stamina in the higher register.
Greg Morgan, the Musical Director has been pleasently shocked by the amount of improvement the band make each rehearsal. He says "four years ago it was a real achievement if we could play a simple tune and all get to the end at approximately the same time. Now, much of the music we play is borrowed from the senior band library and the more I ask of the players, the more they achieve. It is such a rewarding experience and I am so proud of them."
We are actively seeking new trainees both young and well, not so young! We will provide instruments, music, uniform and tuition free of charge. We do not charge for lessons and so our trainees can become band members at no cost whatsoever. You do not need to read music to join - we teach you that as well. Playing in the band brings members in to contact with likeminded people and in to the heart of many communities. It is a really social hobby which costs nothing to take part in.
