TRAINING Band
Jan 08 - Panto trip 'Peter Pan'
A 40 strong party of young talented trainee musicians from Hatherleigh Silver Band set off for Plymouth's Theatre Royal for the excellent production of Peter Pan on Saturday 5th January. The youngsters elected to have a team building day together at the Panto. As predicted, many parents and friends came along pretending to be adult helpers, though in truth this was just an excuse to see the panto as well!
Paul Nicholas was a great Captain Hook though local lad Matt Slack was the audience favourite as Smee, he was 1 Smart Fellow or was it worded slightly differently!!!!. The youngsters from the training band enjoyed the performance despite the embarrassment by having to watch their parents shouting "its behind you" at the tops of their voices!
The youngsters can now look forward to a trip to the cinema in the half term holiday.
See our Training Band Gallery for pictures of the day.
Dec 07 - Christmas Concert
Once again the Training Band excelled themselves at the Bands Christmas concert.
They started their programme with a great rendition of Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer, this was followed by a beautifully controlled 'Coventry Carol'. A winters tale was to be the finale but instead of finishing they played some random Carols selected by the audience. A fabulous night was had by all.

HSB are pleased to announce that Greg Morgan is the new Musical Director of our Training Band. From January 2007 Greg Morgan became the full time conductor of the training band. As before, Greg (who plays with the senior band), will receive the support of many other members of the senior band. Greg has begun to purchase new music and he has various plans to take the training band forward. We have been busy until now establishing a training band and putting facilities, instruments etc in place. Now we have to develop this.
Greg has said "I do not plan a performance until the summer time. But when we do, it will be very different to our performances to date. We will feature soloists and play a variety of modern band music showing off a number of different styles from traditional marches and hymns right through to calypso.
A number of team building events will also be put in place culminating in a planned trip for all trainees and families to the panto next Christmas. So far this has been received extremely well - especially from the older members of the senior band and their families!
We will bring you news of all developments as soon as details are available
