Principal Solo Cornet

Mike Boother

Mike (Peter Pan) now comfortably sits in the Principal chair. He has his own civil engineering consultancy and when not designing bridges he is continuing with his Austin Healey restoration project. He has two children, Thomas who plays French Horn in HM Royal Marines Band Service and cornet with HSB when he can, and Emily, a doctor.

Assistant Principal Solo Cornet & Bandmaster

Cary Brock

Cary is a lifelong member of Hatherleigh Silver Band, having joined the training band as a child. Throughout his decades playing with the band, he has displayed his versatility by playing almost all the instruments of the band at one time or another, but currently is a proud member of the front row cornets. He loves being part of the band community, having new adventures, and as bandmaster, doing his best to keep us all in line! Outside of band, Cary enjoys playing badminton and practicing martial arts along with his family.

Solo Cornet

Kirstie Floyd-Walker

Kirstie began her brass banding journey as a youngster with Devon’s favourite village band, Northlew Silver. After spending a couple of brief decades on the dark side, playing trumpet with a variety of Devon-based bands including soul, funk and even (gasp) jazz, she saw the error of her ways and was welcomed into Hatherleigh Silver Band in 2021, joining the front row cornets.

Kirstie’s favourite part of brass banding is the chance to take music out into the community, winning over new audiences and being part of the town’s events, especially Hatherleigh carnival and Bandamonium. That, and going to the pub after band practice, which is also very important.

2nd Cornet

Richard Howson

2nd Cornet

Jane Fawcett

I joined the band 20 years ago when I decided I wanted to do something completely different. Since then I haven’t looked back and have been the band secretary since 2012. I enjoy being on the back row and helping with the younger members of the band, watching them grow in confidence and ability and moving up the ranks. Here’s to the next 20 years!

3rd Cornet

Harry Lewis

Harry is Hatherleigh's Junior Town Crier and a keen member of the Hatherleigh Players. He attended training band for 3 years before joining the main band.

3rd Cornet

Rosa Floyd-Walker

Rosa is one of the younger members of the band, having recently graduated to Hatherleigh Silver Band through our training band programme, joining on back row cornets. Rosa is a keen musician, also learning violin and piano in her spare time, and she is a defender for Lydford Foxes Under 12 football team.
